Memorial Day backpacking

the basic plan is to meet at Lodgepole the Foothills Visitor Center in Sequoia before 8AM at 8:30AM on Saturday (5/26) morning and pick up our permit. We'll leave one car nearby at Crescent Meadows (High Sierra trailhead) and take the other down to Buckeye Flat where our hike begins, and hike out via the Kaweah Middle fork and back via the HST with a dayhike in between.

The trailhead is around 3000 ft, and for the first day, we'll be hiking above the Middle Fork of the Kaweah in the foothills. We should make it in 10-13 miles to one of the creeks near Bearpaw meadow. The trail is a little up and down, but I'd expect 3,000-4,000 ft of elevation gain. Hopefully there are still some nice flowers by then.

For the second day, we'll hike in a few miles further, then leave our packs for the day and try to dayhike up toward either Kaweah Gap or Elizabeth Pass, depending on conditions. I'd expect snow to start between 9-10,000 feet - where and how much will determine how far we get.

On Monday, we'll follow the High Sierra Trail back out - ~11-13 miles and ~2,000 ft (depending where we spend Sunday night).
